Eric at mile 75. The Fish Hatchery aid station where we learn he's been having adverse problems caused by some of the salt tablets he's been taking. Eric had to abandon the race shortly afterward. Congratulations to Eric for putting up a good fight. He already plans on being back to Leadville next year. Posted by Hello

Darkness descends and Jeff paces Eric from Halfmoon aid station to Fish Hatchery.  Posted by Hello

Mile 60. Eric has made it back over Hope Pass with Marc's assistance. He gets a change into dry shoes by Jeff before Leigh paces Eric to the Halfmoon aid station Posted by Hello

Eric (with visor) near Winfield as Marc (right) joins him to pace. A brutal thunderstorm pounded Eric on the way down Hope Pass and into Winfield creating cold and muddy conditions.  Posted by Hello

Hope Pass. Eric will run over the pass and down the other side into the ghost town of Winfield. He restocks, turns around, and runs right back over the pass. Posted by Hello

Eric with father, Marv, at the Twin Lakes aid station 40 miles into the race. Next stop...Hope Pass.  Posted by Hello

Eric is running really well as enters the Treeline stop. He has already run a marathon at this point. Posted by Hello

4:00am Sunday morning - the race starts with the cermemonial shotgun fire by the mayor of Leadville. Over 500 entrants and less than 50% usually finish. Posted by Hello

Eric (center) looks good the night before the race. His wife, Leigh, and Marc will help pace him on the last 50 miles of the course. Marc flew out from NH just to help out. Posted by Hello

Leadville 100

This last weekend, Adam went to Leadville, CO to help crew Eric Truhe as he ran the Leadville 100 running race. It's an ultramarathon run on mountain trails all above 10,000 feet elevation and involves running over the arduous Hope Pass...twice. Eric has summited Denali, climbed 6000m peaks in Peru, and completed a 50 mile running race. The boy likes to suffer.

The crew's job was to assist Eric at the aid stations positioned roughly every 10 miles along the course. We'd feed him, help him change clothes, and he is allowed to have one pace runner at a time during the last 50 miles.

Straight from the Horse's Mouth

Below you'll see a link to an audio post. We will occasionally be leaving audio posts on this site. We don't have to connect to the internet to post the audio messages. We just have to make a phone call from our cell phone. The quality of the voice messages is OK. About as good as what you would hear on an answering machine.

Road trip coming!

We're getting close to the launch date. Our house in Fort Collins is rented out and the renters will probably buy it at the end of the lease. All the loose ends are getting tied up. Hopefully will be headed out east by Sept 1!
